kaffir lime | citrus hystrix

In the country over the weekend, about halfway between Bathurst and Cowra. Though protected up against a west-facing wall, a sturdy kaffir lime (Citrus hystrix) stood proving it is one citrus that can flourish in a climate where it can get pretty cold in winter. Even in May we had fires going all day.
I know a good citrus harvest is a high maintenance project and a hedge full of fruit may be surplus to requirements. But – although this one is a single specimen – its dense, compact form reminded me of the potential to incorporate produce plants into ornamental garden designs as a screen or hedge.
